Bloomit invests in Welectric E-Mobility Chain

Amsterdam, July 2022 – Anyone who wants to reinvent their daily mobility can now turn to WELECTRIC. The first e-mobility retail chain in the Netherlands with stores in Amsterdam, Weesp, Bussum, Rotterdam and more to follow. With the support of investor Bloomit Ventures, WELECTRIC opens up the fragmented range of e-mobility to a wide audience with an inspiring collection of light electric vehicles: from kick scooter and fat bike to cargo bike and microcar.

In addition to the conventional car, scooter and bicycle, a new domain of light electric vehicles (LEV) is emerging. Inspiring alternatives to move faster, cheaper and more sustainably in and around cities. With the additional advantage of a low footprint in terms of energy, space, weight and materials. WELECTRIC has the ambition to offer the best and most attractive e-mobility range in accessible stores to discover, compare and test vehicles that fit your lifestyle.

Low costs, big fun
Just like solar panels, a lot of money can be saved with a light electric vehicle. A range of 100 km is often achievable for only € 1.50 in power costs. Most daily trips are between 5 and 19 kilometers. So every replaced car journey immediately yields money in terms of fuel, parking costs and door-to-door time. For commuting and other daily trips , there is an inspiring offer of e-mobility alternatives. Like trendy fatbikes, roomy cargo bikes or microcars to get you warm and dry to your destination.

The Story behind
During the pandemic in 2020, WELECTRIC starts in a hotel lobby in Amsterdam-North. Founders Rogier Eg, Wouter Klaase and Ivo Brandsma have been following the rise of e-mobility for years. They want to inspire people with this new domain of light electric vehicles. Until then, the growing offerings are largely unknown and only available online. Quality, service and warranty is a 'black box' for most consumers. WELECTRIC solves this with its new store concept.

WELECTRIC gets off to a flying start. The lobby is quickly exchanged for the first premium e-mobility store at Rozengracht 101 – 103 in Amsterdam. WELECTRIC stands out and quickly catches the attention of Bloomit Ventures, the Dutch investor in light electric vehicles, run by the founders of Babboe Bakfietsen. In the spring of 2022, Bloomit decides to invest in WELECTRIC to jointly accelerate the LEV transition and thus contribute to more liveable, clean cities.

Paris Climate Agreement
Urban mobility is changing rapidly. Towards 2025, more and more city centers will become emission-free. There are now 260 EU cities with 'low emission zones'. Cars and vans are becoming less welcome in city centers. Even if they are electric (!), since in size and weight they continue to contribute to traffic jams, parking pressure and particulate emissions. WELECTRIC is responding to these changes with a quality range of light electric vehicles and all the associated services.

Quality and Service
The LEV industry is still young. This results in a proliferation of online e-mobility providers with vehicles of varying quality. WELECTRIC separates the good from the bad with a growing collection of top brands. Customers can count on expert and independent advice in the stores where they can discover, compare and test drive. In addition, WELECTRIC is a one-stop-shop that also offers accessories, financing, insurance, repair and maintenance.

WELECTRIC now has 4 experience stores (Amsterdam, Weesp, Bussum, Rotterdam) and the retail chain will be expanded further in the near future. You are most welcome for a test drive!
